National Health Information and Technology Week

Next week is Health Information and Technology Week, which honors the health information management professionals whose technological prowess and know-how has saved countless lives throughout the year. The goal of Health Information and Technology Week is to raise awareness and to celebrate the progress made in the field. It is sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as well as the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA), and together they represent approximately 70,000 HIM professionals.

Since technology changes at such a rapid pace, demand for these professionals has increased in the past few years. It is very important that the information that our medical professionals have is valid, accurate, complete, trustworthy, and that the data is used correctly. It is up to these HIM Professionals to ensure that these conditions are met. For that reason, the theme of this year’s event is “Accurate Health Information for Care YOU Trust.” The AHIMA website contains a planning kit for this upcoming week, including suggested activities, articles and quizzes, a PowerPoint presentation, HI&T Week Merchandise, and other resources for the event.

So take a moment of your time next week to stop and appreciate a HIM Professional for doing what they do best: keeping us and our medical information safe. Here at Medical Scrubs Mall, we’ll be doing just that!
