National Parents’ Day

This Sunday is Parents Day! But before you go worrying about running out to the store to buy that last-minute gift, this is not a day for presents. That’s what Mother and Father’s Day are for! Parents Day is simply a day to enjoy our parents, to spend time with them and show them that we appreciate them for all of the hard work they did in getting us this far.

Many people have never heard of this holiday, so what is it, and how did it come about? Back in 1994, President Bill Clinton signed into law a resolution establishing the fourth Sunday of July as Parents’ Day. This was established for “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in the rearing of children”, according to the Congressional Resolution. At the time, it was recognized that there was a need to promote responsible parenting in society. So, the government created this holiday, which was similar to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, in order to give communities in the country a chance to celebrate and honor specific parents for simply being “outstanding parents”.

Today, if you say the term “National Parents’ Day” in almost any social circle, all you will get are confused looks. But here at Medical Scrubs Mall, we feel it is our civic duty to promote this holiday, and to honor the exceptional parents in our society. So, take some time this weekend and spend it with your parents (or children if you are a parent), and be sure to tell them you appreciate all of their hard work!
